Truthfinder…What can it find out about you.

So for a while now I have been very good at finding things online. Its a simple Google search to find out just about anything. But the other day I saw a commercial for TruthFinder.com saying that you would be surprised at what they could find on you.

So I just tried this and they found me quite easily. I simply typed it the information that is available to the public such as my first and last name and my city and state. They asked me if I had lived in a certain place and if someone else was my cousin. Both to which the answer was yes…Scary how fast it asked me about who I was related to. Then it asked if I was over a certain age to which I said no. Then it was a few more moments of waiting while it pulled a lot of my relatives names and also histories. After a few more moments of waiting you are asked to sign a Users Comments Statement. Saying that you will not use the information that you find to basically stop anyone from employment and a few other things. Since I was searching myself, I casually browsed it and then hit the check box. I did see the same Disclaimer that I agreed to at the bottom of the site and here it is for you.

“DISCLAIMER: You may not use our service or the information it provides to make decisions about consumer credit, employment, insurance, tenant screening, or any other purpose that would require FCRA compliance. TruthFinder does not provide consumer reports and is not a consumer reporting agency. (These terms have special meanings under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 USC 1681 et seq., (“FCRA”), which are incorporated herein by reference.) I cant help but wonder sometimes how much of my information is for public use…and sometimes I have fun googling myself and others to see what I can find. I do highly advise against this method if you are not going to use some caution. I was searching for someone one time and I was also running a program to see what sites my computer was touching while I was searching and I saw CIA.gov come up as one of the sites. It freaked me out. So Please use caution.. I wouldn’t want anyone to get into the Dark web or in extreme trouble with our government for some google searches.

Anyway, my report was done and they had me give my name and email for their records (to see who is searching for who) Pretty sure that these records are also available to the government.  At this point they have you click yes to another agreement stating that you will not stalk this person, that you will not harass this person and that you will not use the information for blackmail (which ps… is against the law) So I clicked the box… cause I cant stalk myself. lol.

And then… Well that’s when they want money… so for 27 dollars and 78 cents per month I can view myself and standard reports for several of my family members. So I tried to leave the site and they sent an alert… say that for $1.00 I could go ahead and have a 5 day trial but that at the end of the trial it will cost me $29.89 every 30 days until I call and cancel my account.

Now… I am pretty curious what could they have on me? But I know that I am a good law-abiding citizen so I am not worried about what they could find. I know all my information.

Overall this site did as they said they would.. they found me, my age, my hometown, my past cities and what freaked me out the most… my relatives. Anyway, Truthfinder… you do good work.

Peace out #geekspeak01
